Field Level Application pf Chappati Diagram

This is the story of analysis of shifting in the of  power scenario at one of the Punjab;s  most excluded and deserving community at village Buga Sharif in district Pind Dadan Khan around different dimensions of power; namely power within, power with, power to and power over. The women group selected for the assessment was Sakyan Sanjh. We started through the orientation about different dimensions of power shifting and useful use of Chappatti diagram in local language. Women discussed about their issues, enlisted available institutions at the village Buga and highlighted their power through different circles beside every institution. The main issue was shared by the community women was unavailability of pure drinking water.

Power within: They shared “we were very shy before the intervention of ActionAid and could not even think of our fundamental rights as well as could not analyse the situation we were faced with. But through Reflect Circle we learned and discussed about our needs and issues, and prioritized the issue of clean drinking water and through how to struggle for our basic right of pure drinking water,

Power with: we engaged all women and man at our reflect circle and other civil society members and tried to reach govt department and our delegation meet with( AC) assistant Commissioner and realized him about the severity of our  major issue.

Power To: Our joint efforts made little difference in our lives the assistant commissioner realized and facilitated water tanks and pipe lines at our village. With the lobbying with government department and other relevant stake holders we feel more empowered and our struggle continue till we achieve our target the availability of clean drinking water at our village .Our spirit is  high.

The Chappati Diagram is a very useful tool for the community to analyze their situation and to help them chart out ways to overcome the issues through proper strategies developed in the light of the assessment.
